Conventions & Navigation

With most Windows-based applications, selection and movement is primarily mouse oriented. Applications for business use tend to involve more data entry than most software, so it is equally important to offer keyboard access to most functions. The Spruce software is designed for either or both. All navigation and critical procedures may be done using keyboard only. Using a mouse may be easier for some tasks, but is not required in the majority of cases. For documentation, we try to include keyboard shortcuts when present. The majority of users will likely mix mouse and keyboard function together based on their personal preference. Different actions tend to favor one or the other from an ease of use standpoint. As one example, grid entry focuses on data entry, so using the keyboard is generally faster in that case (we'll discuss grid entry more later on).
