Images

The Images tab offers the ability to link up to three (3) product images with an item. Image data is maintained by the Attachments database; however, the images are not accessible via attachment functions. Images can be viewed via the "Images" tab in the Folders (F4) found in the Point of Sale area. To add a new image, or replace an existing one, you can either drag and drop an image file onto any of the three image panels or use the browse (...) buttons to select an image using the file dialog. We also offer an Image Load utility that can associate images from a user-specified directory with items based on a match between the file name and the item's SKU, catalog image ID, or vendor-item SKU.

When images are accessed through Folders in a transaction (Point of Sale, for example), the images will be shown in the same order as is reflected here. Images can be placed (assigned) to any of the three image panels (boxes). Image previews are sized to fit in the space provided and to maintain their aspect ratio. You can view a full size image using your computer's default image program by clicking on the image. Image files can be large, so some restraint should be used or considered if attaching large quantities of images to items. Very large images may cause a noticeable delay when initially viewing folders containing those images.

Image Handling

Images are saved and retrieved using the JPEG format.

The default size an image can be displayed at in Item Maintenance and Folders is 189 x 184 pixels (this doesn't take into consideration application scaling which may increase or decrease this size). Double-clicking an image opens the full size image using the default image viewer for your computer.

Images are scaled based on the higher dimension to fill the picture box as best as possible. Image data isn't scaled except in the case of thumbnail images.

Images that are added via the Image Load utility are saved along with a thumbnail. Thumbnails are saved with a maximum height or width of 80 (the higher dimension is set to 80, and the smaller dimension, if different, is scaled based on a percentage). Thumbnails are used for product images in the ProLink app.

We don'tspecify any compression when saving images as a JPEG. Default compression for the JPEG encoder is 75%. For this reason, there may be a loss of quality. Conversion from some image types to JPEG may result in more or less loss depending upon the original file type and quality.
